Coach “Mals” brings with him to Bash almost 12 years of Division 1 playing and coaching experience. As a lefty, he pitched at the University of Iowa from 2000 - 2004 and went back to take over as their pitching coach in 2008. Prior to coaching at Iowa, Chris spent two years as an assistant coach at Valaraiso University.

Nine of Chris’s pitchers at Iowa went on to be drafted into the MLB.

Since leaving the Hawkeyes, Coach Mals ran the Highland Park District’s recreation programming, including baseball and softball. Chris was responsible for the oversight and instruction of youth players and coaches for all ages beginning at tee-ball through 14. 

Chris’s overall experience allows him to relate to and connect with all players while coaching skills and concepts effectively beginning with youth athletes all the way to top prospects.

While still at Iowa, Chris led a few pitching clinics at Bash. We’re proud and excited to have a coach of his caliber and experience back with us again.
